The Ministry of Youth Development supported by the Bureau of Gender Affairs observes 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

The 16 Day period started on November 25th which was International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, and will end on December 10th. That day is International Human Rights Day.

Speaking with DA Vibes, Acting Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs, Melissa Morgan spoke more on the activities of the days of activism
Morgan stated, âWe have one and anti- violence gender based mural, where we will be inviting different stake holders, students and youth, to paint positive messages, messages of supportive to survivors of domestic violence and also for messages against gender based violence.â
Morgan stated since last year during the height of the pandemic, that the Ministry via the Bureau of Gender Affairs has taken specific steps to combat gender-based violence
She informed that they have launched a pilot safe housing program to provide safe housing for survivors of gender-based violence. She added that these survivors are fully dependent on their perpetrators, and need somewhere safe to stay so that they could be more self-efficient. She then ended that statement by saying that they also have recently completed a training with judiciary officers to improve the response to domestic violence
The Acting Director of the Bureau of Gender Affairs ended by saying that gender-based violence is one of the most prevalent human right violations in the world
